Stratton Oakmont is a Non- Government Organisation (NGO) who are reaching out to the children aged 0-18 years old who are living in Delhi City. Stratton Oakmont will need YOUR support to help us make these kids life better and make sure they have a meal on the table ever night. I chose this cause of malnutrition because everyone deserves to have a healthy diet and to have the right amount of food morning, lunch and dinner. Stratton Oakmont will be running by charity events, silent auctions, bake sales and donations.
Malnutrition is India's silent emergency. Rates show that 1 in 3 of the worlds malnourished children live in India. 46% of all India's children (approximately 60 million) are underweight and rates among India's children are 5 times higher than china and 2 times higher than those in Sub - Saharan Africa. The UN estimates that 2.1 million Indian children every year before reaching the age of 5. The city being focused on in India is the city of Delhi. Delhi has a population of 51,000 street children and 135 of them have died from malnutrition between 2009-2012. In Delhi, a survey was done to find 56 out of 101 children were malnourished and were all very sick. Getting malnutrition affects children's chance of survival, reduces there ability to learn and reduces there time of living. Malnutrition can be a slow and painful death with many problems happening at once. You can not get malnutrition from just missing one meal or not having protein for one day, it occurs if you have a significant change in your diet and don't eat certain foods. There are many ways to get malnutrition including poor feeding practices, such as bad quality breastfeeding, having the wrong foods and not ensuring that the child gets enough nutritious food. Usually when affected you notice infections that cause diarrhoea, measles and malaria. Another sign of malnutrition is is you start losing weight rapidly (usually around 10 pounds).
From a survey, there was a study found that 36 percent of 3,650 lacked nutritious foods and were underweight. One third of that percentage showed signs of severe wasting (too thin for their height, acute malnutrition). In Delhi, 16 percent of children are extremely malnourished and 42 percent of children ages under 5 are underweight.
Stratton Oakmont is a Non-profit organisation because every cent will go towards the children, workers and fundraisers. Stratton Oakmont's goal is to open a food centre in Delhi to provide good and healthy meals for breakfast lunch and dinner for those with the disease. On Monday and Tuesday a qualified doctor will come with medical supplies and help out to those who are very sick. The centre will also have clean water stations, beds for some and will be held in a solid heated/ air conditioned (depending on the weather) centre. The company will still be held in Australia and the workers will be paid a fair amount for going over. There will be plenty of fundraisers to support this including sponsoring a local bodyboarding club at Cronulla. Emerald Bodyboard Specialists will have many enjoying days for all ages to support the money for this cause. Every sunday for 8 months of the year there will be a bodyboarding contest at North Cronulla for ALL AGES. There are 3 levels for this contest which is:
A- Trying to have fun/Beginner
AA- More experienced and skilful
AAA- Mostly very serious and talented bodyboarders who really want to win.
It will be a fun exciting day that most should look forward too where there will be plenty of surfing, donations, memories and good times. At these events there will be a $2 sausage sizzle, donation box's and we will be funding a prize for the winner of the contests each week. Also, once a month there will be a big event held at North Cronulla which will start at day and go into night where there will be a bodyboarding contest judged by the kids (to keep all involved). After the contest there will be a brief presentation about the cause of malnutrition and hope to get lots of donations and maybe even more sponsorships.
The main goals for Stratton Oakmont are to fund as much money as possible to go towards these kids. These kids certainly do not deserve this to be happening to them especially from such a young age. Another is to make it so they wont get malnutrition again and can live a healthy life.
Malnutrition Definition: Lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat, not eating enough of the right things, or being unable to use the food that one does eat.
